WindowsLive Mail Notes

To request a read receipt for an individual message in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express:
  • Select Tools from the message's menu.
    • Press the Alt key if you cannot see the menu bar in Windows Live Mail.
  • Make sure Request Read Receipt is checked.

When the recipient of the message opens it, she is asked to notify you that she has opened and read the mail.

Request Read Receipts Automatically

You can also make read receipts a default option in Windows Live Mail, Windows Mail or Outlook Express, so that it does automatically request a receipt for every message you send.


Mail Server Terminology

IMAP - 'Internet Message Access Protocol' - for Incoming Mail

POP3 - 'Post Office Protocol' - for Incoming Mail

SMTP - 'Simple Mail Transfer Protocol' - for Outgoing Mail


Turn on the Rich-Text Editor in Windows Live Mail

To enable rich-text editing in Windows Live Mail:

  • Click New in Windows Live Hotmail to start a new message.
  • Click 'Message' in the toolbar to toggle Rich or Plain text ion and off.

To enable rich-text editing in Windows Live Hotmail:

  • Click New in Windows Live Hotmail to start a new message.
  • If you see Plain text in the message's toolbar:
    • Click Plain text.
    • Select Rich text from the menu that comes up

Use Windows Live Hotmail's Rich Text Editing Abilities

Now you can use fancy fonts, graphical smileys and more in your Hotmail message.

Note: If you send a message using rich-text formatting with Windows Live Hotmail, the recipient must be able to receive HTML-formatted emails.
