UK online centres - Partner news

22 November 2011

Helen Milner

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to attend an event at Sheffield United Football Club which celebrated all the hard work that went into making our local campaign, Go ON Sheffield, such a success.

It was wonderful to be able to recognise some of the volunteers from across the city that made the campaign possible. We’ve put together a great video that showcases what Go ON Sheffield was all about, and you can take a look here.

I was also able to meet some of the people who got online for the first time during Go ON Sheffield, and who were lucky enough to win a year’s free broadband from Plusnet.  Good luck to all the winners who will be taking their first steps with Plusnet at home in the coming months! If you’ve got learners looking to get online at home, do read on for more information about a great offer from Plusnet below.

Best wishes

UK online centres email address change

Last week we announced that the current UK online centres team has been successful in its bid to take over management of the UK online centres network on 1 December. Following this there are a few small changes taking place to let you know about.

You won’t notice any difference in the delivery of our service, but there are a few small changes to do with how you contact us we need to let you know about.

The general email account to contact the UK online centres team (currently ukonlinecentres@ufi.com) will change to help@ukonlinecentres.com. Please save this new address as you will need to use this to contact us from 1 December. Individuals within the team will get in touch with you soon to let you know of their new contact details.

Survey for immigrant communities

15 Minutes Closer is a project funded by the European Commission that aims to find out how the internet and mobile phones help immigrant communities around Europe have a better life.

They’re keen to ask those who are part of an immigrant community about their experiences of getting online, and want to encourage you to help any of your learners who fit the bill to fill it in here. Each person who completes the survey will be in with a chance of winning 15 free minutes of international phone calls.

We’re also making materials available to help you promote the survey to your learners, so get in touch with us by emailing ukonlinecentres@ufi.com if you’d like to receive some materials.

Our next campaign

Last week, we told you about our January campaign, which will run from 23 January – 17 February.

The campaign will be focussed on public services, and we’ll be producing materials to help your learners find pensions, health information and jobs online.

Why not put the dates in your diary, and we’ll tell you more about how to sign up for the campaign in the coming weeks.
