UK online centres - Partner news

15 November 2011

Welcome

Helen Milner

This week, I’ve got some very exciting news to announce. In June this year, the Skills Funding Agency launched a tender process for the management of the UK online centres network, currently managed by Ufi/learndirect.

The UK online centres team, led by me and my colleagues Anne Faulkner and Kevin McLean, set up a new organisation called Online Centres Foundation to bid for this contract and we're delighted to announce that we've been successful in our bid and will take over the management of UK online centres from 1 December 2011.

This is a really exciting time for us as an organisation, but as a part of the network you won’t notice any difference. We’ll continue to work closely with you, and we will share further details of our strategy – of which you will all play a huge part – in the coming weeks.

I’m also pleased to be able to share an exciting offer from Plusnet, available to you and your learners exclusively through the Go ON website. Do read on below to find out more.

Best wishes

Helen Milner

Get Plusnet broadband at home - 9 months half price

If your learners are ready to start thinking about getting online at home, we’ve got a great offer from Plusnet that might be of interest to them. If they sign up to Plusnet home phone, they’ll be able to take advantage of 9 months half price broadband, which means they could be paying 16.23 a month for the first 9 months, and 19.48 after that.

The package offers 10GB of usage per month, and up to 20MB speeds. Plusnet’s customer support is 24/7 and based here in the UK and they have agreed to give every customer signing up to this deal through UK online centres extra support in the first three months of contract.

We think this offer could be perfect for learners wanting to get online at home for the first time, or anyone wanting a cheaper broadband package at home. You can find out more about how you and your learners can take advantage of this great offer on our website.

We will also be making promotional materials available to a small group of centres as part of a pilot. Please email ukonlinecentres@ufi.com if you'd like to get involved.

Introduction to online basics and Go ON webinar session tomorrow

This Wednesday, 16 November we’re holding the latest of our training sessions introducing the Go ON website and Online basics to new UK online centres staff and volunteers.

There are still a few places left on this online session which is ideal for those supporting people who are new to computers and the internet and it is especially useful if they have little or no experience in using the Go ON learning website.

You can find more details about all UK online centres training on our website here and you can sign up for Wednesday’s session here .
