These pictures were taken by Stuart Cowgill, (Stanley), who worked with Mel at Alwyn Isherwood Ltd (new window). as apprentice Radio & TV engineers - see Male Staff/
They were taken for Ernie (lived at No.16), and George Crossland, (No 14) who was our Service Manager at Isherwoods and our evening class lecturer.

Marshall Street is off Lake Lock Road, Stanley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire (UK)
View Google Map (new window with 'Street View') . It is opposite Stanley Secondary Modern School where Mel Ashton (webmaster for Ernie & Pam's pages), first met Ernie and his Mum & Dad........
See Jimmy and Jimmy / Cath.  Jimmy & Cath let me store my push-bike in their yard for security.

Comment received from Graham Lovell following general notification of the upload of these pictures 01/03/13 ........

Hi Mel
I hope you are well. A short note to let you know that George's mother-in-law (my grandma) bought 13 Marshall Street in the early 60s. While she and my Grandpa Gledhill lived and worked at the Lofthouse Gate WMC on Canal Lane, my family lived in the house. At that time the street was not paved but instead had red-shale covering. There were outhouse toilets and red brick paved yards at the back between the houses and the toilets. Most of the street put inside toilets upstairs in the late 50s through mid-60's. Meanwhile I was schooled at the Lake Lock Road school and Stanley Secondary Modern school until moving to Alverthorpe. George moved to Wrenthorpe sometime in the 60's.
Thanks to you and Stuart for posting the photo's -- it's surely a small world.
Best
Graham

The tree on the left of the centre car park is a Eucalyptus - it's evergreen and the leaves smell fantastic. The bark peels off in long strips and gives the trunk a wonderful patchwork appearance
