Info added 11/04/17 .....
Kevin Grundy  (via Facebook): Thomas Mark Carter, a brewer in Knottingley, from about
1861 (and until the end of the 1920ís) In April 1845, purchased land on George Street and
Smythe Street, built a brewery and started production in 1846, this was
then known as The Victoria Brewery.
By 1890 he owned 10 Inns and 1 Beer house, and controlled 67 altogether.
He built a house on George Street, which later opened as The Cattle
Market Hotel (1887-1930) On 31 July 1890 merged with The Melbourne
Brewery of Regent Street Leeds to form The Leeds- Wakefield Brewery.

Following notes by Stuart Cowgill - August, 2007
Now called "Ploughland House"  & belongs to the Kalon Group.
Kalon is owned by Lesley Silver  -  who owns the "Silver Paint & Lacquer Co"
(and  previous owner of Leeds United).
The big garage, part of which we used as a store for new stock, is as flat as a flat thing
and the extension at the back which used to be TV Test is also flat.
