HAPTON was the first village in England to
have street lighting by electricity. |
| Founded in 1886 by Messrs W.F. and J.F. Simpson (the
former a pupil of Edison), the firm,
Simpson Brothers (of Hapton) Ltd. was responsible for a great deal of
pioneer work, in the electrical
sphere, in Lancashire. (Lamp & Plaque erected by Hapton Parish
