Following notes from REYNOLDS NEWSPAPER
September 18, 1921
The fire destroyed THE PAVILION at the end of the North Pier
(the Pavilion was capable of holding 2,500 people)
Damage estimated at about £40,000 was caused through the fire of the
Indian Pavilion. In the afternoon there had been a concert in the
Pavilion and the visitors had only just left.
The fire brigade isolated the Pavilion by ripping up the decking to
prevent the fire destroying the whole Pier. In half an hour the
Pavilion collapsed into the sea. The fire was watched by tens of
thousands of people.
