Top Awards For Police In Wakefield District

Police in the Wakefield District have scooped top honours for their
success in acting on calls from members of the public.
The Division has been presented with a Certificate of Excellence
from the Yorkshire, Humberside and East Midlands Regional Police
Crimestoppers Consortium (RPCC), the organisation that represents
the forces in relation to Crimestoppers.
The award, acknowledging work to ensure that calls are dealt with
effectively, clearly highlights the effectiveness of the partnership
between the Crimestoppers charity and the RPCC. The citation on the
Certificate of Excellence reads: “for developing systems and
processes that promote best practice, deliver visible social justice
and improve public confidence”.
And the district’s Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Marc
Callaghan was recently named Crimestopper of the Month highlighting
the large number of arrests so far this year in the district which
were better than the numbers of arrests made by 26 of the 43 police
forces in the UK .
The division’s work will be highlighted as good practice by the
National Police Improvement Agency.
One in every six calls made to Crimestoppers from people living in
the Wakefield district results in an arrest. Crimestoppers has
provided
information that has led to more than 100 arrests in the Wakefield
District Police Division in the first quarter of this year for
offences including theft, burglary, drugs and drink driving.
Chief Superintendent Marc Callaghan, Wakefield District Police
Divisional Commander, said: "This is excellent news – it is a credit
to the people of the Wakefield district that they have the
confidence in the police to deal with the things that they are
telling us matter to them.
"It is another example of keeping our promise to deliver an
excellent service that we and the public can be proud of..
“All information passed to us is never ignored or overlooked and if
it can be acted upon immediately, it will be. We want these calls to
continue - that little piece of information they have may be the
final piece in a jigsaw that leads to the arrest and conviction of
someone who has been
committing crime and ruining lives in their neighbourhood.
"Of course there are often occasions when the information we receive
does not support immediate police action. We may need to gather
further information to support warrants or collect more evidence but
this is
because we want to have the best chance of catching and convicting
the criminals who are harming our communities."
Crimestoppers calls are anonymous, cash rewards are available from
£100 up to £1000 with information that leads to person(s) being
arrested and charged.

is carrying knives or weapons.
