Message
sent on behalf of Marion Lewis OBE to: Watch Representatives (regional
and force area), NHWN Trustees and Advisory Group members
Dear Watch Representatives, members, Trustees and Advisory Group
members,
Please can you ‘cascade’ this message to as many of your Neighbourhood
Watch contacts as possible. It has also been sent to ACPO for
circulation to police single points of contact.
Moving forward towards the brand repositioning and website launch in
October, we are looking at ways of generating some positive media
coverage around Neighbourhood Watch at this time. One effective approach
would be to offer the media some case studies of Neighbourhood Watch
members who have helped to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in
their area.
We are looking for such case studies – for example where someone has
intervened to prevent a crime – and also for examples of Watch members
who are really proactive, well known in their neighbourhoods and have
been able to promote community spirit or help a vulnerable group. The
more people we can have the better, and it would be great to have a
selection from around the country.
What would happen next would be that journalists would be offered the
chance to do pre-recorded feature type pieces with these Watch members,
along the lines of ‘a day in the life of’, profiles on their stories and
possibly spending a bit of time with them and seeing what they do. This
would be part of a bigger media package which would also include
interviews
with the Home Office and staff at NHWN.
We are looking for proactive Watch members who would be happy to talk to
the media – particularly people who buck the traditional ‘curtain
twitcher’ stereotypes, but most importantly people who are active in
their communities and in helping to fight crime.
If you know of anyone who you feel would be suitable to be put forward
for this, please do pass us their contact details or encourage them to
contact us on
enquiries@nationalnhw.org or 0116 229 3118. Anyone suggested will
not be pressurised to take part – it’s important that people are
comfortable to proceed.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at the
email address or phone number given above.
Yours sincerely,
Marion Lewis
