Outwood Supertroupers
| HISTORY
Since the early months of 1983 a dedicated
group of amateur minstrels have been delighting audiences in a variety
of venues in the area. The founder member all those years ago was the late Ernest Crossland, an ex miner and of Lee Moor Players. Ernest moved to Outwood W.M.C. on Ledger Lane and started recruiting members for the show. The initial membership was eighteen and,
over the years, has hovered around the dozen mark, together with their own
organist. Since their inception, the Supertroupers have raised over £ 10,000 for local charities, performing shows in aid of The Opera House, Fieldhead Hospital, Wakefield Hospice, The Bungalow Appeal at Killingbeck, Pinderfields Eye Unit, Bradford Disaster, Help the Aged, and various other local schools and old peoples homes as far afield as Hemsworth. Although purely amateur and completely
self financing, the quality of the shows is top class. Rehearsals are
held on a weekly basis. It is a fact that a show can be staged with
only a days notice, however, more notice is obviously preferred ! The Supertroupers provide a show of quality acts, based loosely on the old Music Hall acts, comprising of singing and comedy routines, also some more modern music based on the songs of Barbara Dickson. Musical arrangement is done by Betty &
Ken Grace and new routines are being constantly rehearsed and added to the
act. Outwood supertroupers are based at Outwood Working Mens Club on Ledger Lane and all the 'troupers would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the secretary and committee of the club for allowing them to use the club facilities both for rehearsals and putting on shows. As with most groups, The Supertroupers are always in need of new members. If you feel that you have the necessary talents to join the group you are cordially invited to attend at the rehearsals held every Thursday at Outwood W.M.C. between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm. |
