Solution from Mel Ashton,

The problem turned out to be the newly installed
Internet Explorer 9 Web Browser. After several hours trying to
delete I.E.9 I had to restore my computer to it's original, (as
purchased), condition - I am currently in the process of
re-installing all my programs, data, etc.
A
'Google' search revealed LOTS of people have problems with
I.E.9 and find it almost impossible to remove - I suggest
that you resist any temptation to install I.E.9 until the
problems with it are resolved !!
