Outwood Computer Club

To whom it may concern ....

An 'Outwood Computer Club' ?

An Outwood Computer Club would be particularly useful for people wanting to 'get into' the use of computers.
This would include 'silver surfers' like myself and would allow 'group help' and help with hardware and software problems.
More advanced topics could be discussed as and when appropriate.

Possible venues include:

Outwood Memorial Hall

Outwood Library

The Cheers - Newton Lane, Outwood

Outwood Working Men's Club,  Ledger Lane, Outwood

Lofthouse Gate Working Men's Club, Canal Lane, Lofthouse Gate

Other possible venues .....  Please contact Mel

Venue Requirements:

Suitable Room & Car Parking Facilities;

PREFERABLY a Wireless Internet (WIFI) facility;  the security code could be made
available to proprietor(s), committee members, staff and customers etc..  A small charge could be made to pay for equipment, etc. and, if desired, sub accounts - usually free of charge - could be set up with email addresses & 'boxes' etc.
See www.bluewatermarina.co.uk/internet (facilities for boat owners).

Mains power for emergency charging of laptop computers;

Ideally, a computer, possibly a projector & large screen TV (for use as a monitor).

Charges should be minimal to cover administration, room costs and, later, possibly the cost of equipment.

An alternative or concurrent possibility would be to establish a 'Virtual Computer Club'.  This could then, of course be attended by anyone with a connection to the
'
WORLD Wide Web'. There would be no specific time to 'attend' and mutual problems could be discussed - possibly using threaded links on particular problems or issues - see below.

Anyone interested in running or joining the club can contact me:
Please note that I do not intend to run the club in any way but would probably join as a member.  Hence, Committee members & a webmaster required.

Mel Ashton's note:
The 'Wakefield Computer Club' was set up by John Backhouse - Alwyn Isherwood's son-in-law - many years ago. Initially it was run by John in their Walton home.
His wife Joan, (nee Isherwood), helped with the preparation - refreshment's etc. then usually departed !
Though a member for a short period, travelling to Walton was a problem for me - particularly in winter due to my poor eyesight.  My eyesight is now MUCH improved due to a 'vitrectomy' and now TWO 'cataracts (EXCELLENT - can see as good as 50 years ago - WITHOUT specs !

Their Agbrigg venue would now be better for me but still a bit far with my driving problems.

Anyone wanting to join the club should contact John by email or telephone (given above).
