CASTAWAY  NOTES

STERN DECK:

Diesel Fuel filling point:
A plastic key is located in corridor key cupboard  (also used for pump out point on port gunwale)

The Main Gas Isolation Valve is located in the gas locker.
There is a 13kg gas bottle and a 6kg gas bottle.  We try to 'save' the 6kg bottle for emergencies as they are less easily obtained.  The gas bottles have a LEFT HAND thread (clockwise to remove) an adjustable spanner is located under the rear steps.
Also under the rear step, a small removable panel allows inspection for any internal bilge water

When working under the engine cover:
ALWAYS remove the ignition key to prevent anyone starting the engine;
ALWAYS use the 'bungee' cord (small locker) to secure the engine cover when lifted.
(also can be used to hold rudder / tiller stable when moored).

Fuel shut off valve is at back port side - under engine cover.

Electrical Isolator switches are located under engine cover - starboard side.
Top switch for domestic supply, bottom switch for engine / starter supply.

A small amount of water stands on the stern deck and first step - easily swept off with a pan & brush but could be dangerous when dark and / or iced.  Some anti-slip matting could improve safety.

Drain channels under engine cover must be kept clear of debris and the drain tube checked regularly
A flexible steel sink drain clearing device (small locker) can be used and - by trial & error - will pass right through to the outside of the boat).

Water from the bottom step should enter the bilge pump 'box' and be automatically pumped out
(together with water from the stern tube).  The drain pipe may require clearing occasionally with, say, a curtain wire.

Water can collect on the swim at each side of the weed hatch - this is best mopped out REGULARLY with the mop & galvanized mop bucket under the stern deck.  If allowed to accumulate, water in the bilge will take a long time to mop out !  A 12V whale pump, with battery clips, is stored in the bathroom airing cupboard for pumping larger quantities of water (not easy and will still need mopping to remove all water).

A wheelhouse or stern cabin would be an ideal solution to the above and would give additional storage space.
