Mel's Comments:
In the early 1940's,
Rene lived with her Mum, Dad and Sister Bessie at No. 350 Leeds
Road (previously 284). I am told that, prior to their
marriage, Cousin Des and (then) girlfrield Rene used to push me
in my chair around Newton Hill / Outwood areas.
In later years Des helped with my Technical College studies.
In particular, he taught me how to use a slide rule correctly -
modifying the 'characteristic' to eliminate approximations.
The slide rule, ('guessing stick'), has, of course long gone -
being replaced by electronic calculators or 'confusers'.
