Around 250 members of Wrenthorpe Aged
Welfare Association enjoyed one of the best Christmas parties at
Outwood Memorial Hall last Saturday. Guests of honour included
Deputy Mayor David Atkinsonand his wife. Coun David Lund and
his wife Molly and MP Bill O'Brien with his wife Joan.
Entertainment was provided by Super Troupers, an old-fashioned
singing and variety act who soon had everyone singing at the tops of
their voices. As a special treat, Jerry Clay Lane School pupil
Nicole Speight, 11, enchanted guests with her delightful
unaccompanied singing.
During the evening it was announced that the summer outing on July
9th would be a day trip to Southport.
Grateful thanks were extended to committee members and their many
helpers for their hard work in making the party such a resounding
success and special thanks were mentioned to the management
committee of the Outwood Memorial Hall.

I was so
delighted to meet Ken Grace and his team last week and talk to him
about the excellent entertainment the group has given to many
audiences over the last 20 years. This Outwood group has an average
age of more than 70, and performs at fundraising functions all over
the district, at celebration evenings, in hospitals and is popular
wherever the older generation gathers. Its most recent performance
was at Lee
Moor Club, where local resident Nancy Easter celebrated her
80th birthday. The group’s performance ranges from the musicals of
the 30s and 40s through wartime Britain to modern day, always
dressed in the appropriate costumes and often with a funny routine.
It was a privilege to watch them rehearse and I have to say, if
given the opportunity, I would have been up there with them doing my
impression of someone who has the tone of a seal and two left feet.
The group relies on donations and fundraising to buy costumes, and
only charges a nominal fee for the cost of travel. If you haven’t
seen the group then I can highly recommend it. If you want to book
the group then just

With the help of a grant from Wakefield Council's
Community Chest, this melodious group of singers have been able to
buy new audio equipment.
Formed 18 years ago, and singing Music Hall and Show numbers, the
Super Troupers have delighted audiences at Lofthouse Gate WMC and
residential homes throughout the area.
They enjoy singing and want others to share this.

A
CONCERT PARTY
from Outwood has got off to a good start.
Although the Super Troupers from Outwood WMC have been performing
only eight weeks, their popularity has already brought bookings for
September.
On Monday night the party played to a full house at the club and
raised £ 168 for Outwood Aged Welfare.
After the show, a representative of Wakefield Opera House booked the
performers for two nights in September. |
