I have recently been fined £ 60.00 and my
driving licence now has 3 penalty points - also my insurance premium
has increased by £ 22.81 !
This after having had a clean driving licence since 1960 (45 years !). Previously I had 3 endorsements within 6 months (motor cycle). The recent prosecution was probably due to
lack of concentration while in the process of refurbishing Junes
recent house - after being 'homeless' for over 8 months ! Many thanks to Roger & Moya Carr for their hospitality & patience during our stay with them. If only I had known in time ....... A friend who works for an insurance company advised me (too late as always !) that recent Government legislative changes to the Freedom of Information Act allows access to speed camera offences registered within the last twelve months which are placed on a freely accessible website. Apparently, every time you pass a camera and your car is travelling even a mile or so over the speed limit, it is registered and placed on the database. You are only sent a ticket if you are way over, OR (and here's the bad news...) if you receive "over 20 near misses" You can now check how many you have against your car's registered Number at the website:
If, at any stage, it says Not available then refresh the page - possibly several
times !
You will be asked for a Username and Password but, as a first time user, just click on the 'Need a login' link and you'll be given one in a pop-up window. I suggest that you jot it down (though the pop up window should still be available in the bottom task bar). In the top right hand corner there is a "click-on" window which will even show the pictures taken by the cameras !!! I found it quite alarming when I checked my car, hope you have better luck than I. Make sure you view the picture to check that it is your car AND who was driving ! Regards - Mel Ashton |
