Hello Mel,

My name is Johnathan Dickens, Bryans eldest.

I was in sat in my office at work and found tears rolling down my cheeks after reading everyones kind words and

memories of my dad. 40 years plus, is a long time, and its hard for anyone to lose somebody who they shared

many a good time, whether it be at work or play. We still have our memories and some good photos that will

never let us forget.

On behalf of my mum and the rest of the Dickens family I would like to thank everyone for there condolances and

memories on this site they a fantastic to read and my dad would have loved them. We would also like to thank

everyone who sent cards or attended my dads funeral, and for the donations that were pledged to the Hospice and

MacMillan nurses who did so much to make my dads last days as comfortable as possible.

Once again thank you, he will always be in our thoughts.

johnathan
Hi Johnathan, (copy to Isherwood's colleagues),
Thank you for your email and kind comments regarding my Isherwood's web pages.

We at Isherwood's were fortunate to have lived and worked in what were, in my opinion, great days.  Unfortunately, due to a severe cold, I felt that it would be unfair to attend your dad's funeral.  I intended to attend with the late 'Frank Rayner'
(affectionately known as 'Dad').
As far as I am aware, though suffering from cancer himself, Frank did indeed attend the funeral - see emails below - I hope that they will not cause distress but will show the concern and respect regarding your late dad.

I have taken the the liberty of including your email on your dad's obituary page:

Hi Frank,
Sorry - I was unaware that you had been diagnosed with cancer.  When was it diagnosed, what treatment have you had / are having ?

We're fine thankyou - June had a scare last year and lost a lot of weight, probably due to worrying.  After several scans and a biobsy it seems that it was chronic infection of the asophagus and she was put on tablets and Gaviscon.  She can still feel 'something' in her throat / asophagus and I don't think that she is completely convinced that it's cured.
As you know, I had the 'vitrectomy (right eye), have since had a cataract op (right eye) which is great - I've had to take one lens out of my specs !
I am due to have the left ey done within about a couple of months.

I must 'phone GHC sometime - have you been in contact yet ?

I haven't heard anything further regarding Bryan - I'll inform you if / when I do.  If you want to contact him, his email address is (was):
brydickens@supanet.com  I haven't had anything 'bounce back from his email address but I haven't had any replies / comments.

Regarding the 'Isherwoods' website, I am considering not renewing the domain name:
www.alwynisherwood.co.uk  as I don't think that many take a look.  It only costs about £ 6:50 / 2 years but ..... along with many others, the cost adds up.  The domain name was first registered on 15/03/03, was renewed in 2005, 2007 and is due for renewal now - ie. about £20 in total.
Oops - too late - while typing this I have taken a look and it's auto renewed !!
Take a look at my domain names and I think that you'll see that they add up !!

Best wishes to self & family,
Regards,
Mel

Hi Mel,
I was diagnosed with cancer about a month ago,I am not having any treatment becuase it has spread too far and chemo is not recommended for 86 year olds. I have been to the local surgery this morning to get clued up about Macmillan Nurses.Glad to hear your cataract removal was a success.I can understand June not being entirely convinced about her throat problem its a worring place to have a problem. No i havent been in contact with GHC since just before Xmas, when he phoned to say he was coming up for a few days with his son...I emailed Bryan a little while after he told me his cancer had returned and gone into his bones, but i got no reply.I think you do right not to renew the "ISHERWOODS" busines in view of those prices.Sorry for being so long winded. Very best wishes to you all. Frank

SINCERE APOLOGIES: (to ALL of my Isherwood's contacts)
Hi all, I am absolutely 'made up' with a cold' (men have FLU, not colds !)
Not only do I feel rough, I am coughing and sneezing constantly.  In view of this, unless things change considerably, I very much regret that I will not be able to attend Bryan's funeral tomorrow (Wednesday, April 29th).

If any of our ex Isherwoods colleagues ARE attending, would you please convey my condolences and apologies to Bryan's wife and family.

A copy of this email has been sent to Bryan's email address should his wife or family be monitoring his emails.
If so, I do hope that this email and the website obituary do not cause any distress or offence.

Melvin Ashton, Tarn Court, Outwood, Wakefield.
