Outwood Dental Practice

My lower dentures have never been of any use for eating meals - even with adhesives.

My dentist, Dr. Philip Reid, has always said that there is nothing that he can do with my lower dentures as there is nothing for the denture to hold on to.  He has always said that the only solution is expensive titanium implants - in the order of £ 3,600 !!

Dental Implant Procedure  Saturday, 18/10/08 by Dr Hassan Maghaireh.
Dr. Philip Reid's room was sterilised and set up as an 'operating theatre' - Hassan & colleagues using operating theatre clothing etc.

The lower gum was cut and peeled back; a hole was drilled into the right hand side of my lower jaw, (with a pilot drill followed by main drill), a titanium implant was then screwed in using a dental size 'torque wrench' - the torque being increased to ensure correct final strength.  A temporary 'cap' was then screwed into the implant.
This was repeated for a second implant on the left of my lower jaw.  The lower gum was then 'put back together' and stitched (over 20 stitches).
The two 'caps' were later be replaced by titanium 'balls' to locate with corresponding titanium 'sockets' which were attached to my lower dentures.  Note that the titanium 'sockets' are fitted with special rubber inserts to facilitate future replacement.

A week on antibiotics, steroids & pain killers meant 'no ale for a week' !!.

Friday 24th October, 2008 - ok but stitches not removed due to an ulcer.

Friday 31st October, 2008 - stitches removed

See dental calendar for current and remaining visits also my comments.
